Participation Requirements for Teachers

  • Be a high school teacher, coach, or educator with students this upcoming term.
  • Sign up as a teacher through the course landing page.
  • Facilitate one visit from an Army National Guard representative to talk about tech career opportunities.

Participation Requirements for Students

  • Engage with the course content and additional materials throughout the program.
  • Submit a tournament-ready project for the upcoming Rocket League Bot Tournament.
  • Complete a project write-up to earn a coding certificate (optional).

Spring Program Overview

Welcome to the Spring Program! Below, you’ll find the key details, possible schedules for our two courses, and important dates to help your students succeed.

Program Schedules

  • Student Course and Teacher Course Access Opens:
    • February 17
    • Unique links for student courses sent out via email
    • Teachers can also access their complimentary teacher courses. These quick, 25-minute courses provide an overview of what to expect, how students can earn coding certificates, and details about tournament participation and prizes.
  • Course Kickoff Call:
    • February 19, 6:00 PM (CST)
      Join us for a virtual kickoff call to review the program, ensure you have all the important details, and answer any questions. Attendance is optional, but highly encouraged. A follow-up email with the slide deck will be sent to those who can’t attend.
  • Code Submission Deadline:
  • Virtual Tournament Event:
    • May 8, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM (CST)
      Celebrate students’ achievements during the live-streamed Rocket League Bot Tournament, hosted on Skillquest’s Twitch page. Prizes, live casters, and shareable highlights await!

Our program is designed to be flexible, allowing you to integrate it into your curriculum however it works best for your classroom. Below are the module breakdowns and possible schedules for each course. Teachers are encouraged to adapt these as needed. The only fixed dates are the tournament submission deadline and the tournament event date.

Rocket League Bot Building

  • Total Modules: 8 + 1 Optional Module
    Overall Course Length: 6h 48m
  • Possible Schedule:
    • February 19–27: Modules 1 & 2 (Setting Up RLBot and Core Python Concepts)
    • February 28–March 7: Module 3 (Building First Routines)
    • March 8–15: Module 4 (Strategic Logic and Gameplay Skills)
    • March 16–30: Modules 5 & 6 (Advanced Strategies and Looping Efficiency)
    • March 31–April 13: Modules 7 & 8 + Optional Module (Refactoring, Debugging, and Sharing Bots)
    • April 24: Code Submission Deadline
    • May 8: Virtual Tournament Event

GameDev with Python

  • Total Modules: 10
    Overall Course Length: 7h 12m
  • Possible Schedule:

     

    • February 19–27: Modules 1 & 2 (Introduction and Core Concepts)
    • February 28–March 7: Module 3 (First Steps in Game Development)
    • March 8–15: Module 4 (Intermediate Skills and Gameplay Features)
    • March 16–30: Modules 5 & 6 (Advanced Development and Finalizing Features)
    • March 31–April 13: Modules 7 & 8 (Polishing and Final Steps)
    • April 24: Code Submission Deadline
    • May 8: Virtual Tournament Event

How to Submit Projects

  • Rocket League Bots: Students can submit their bots using this submission form.
  • GameDev with Python Projects: Students can submit their games using this submission form.
